I fell asleep and dreamt in spite of

I packed my bags, went to work, chased my dreams in spite of

Looked in the mirror, put on a game face, a pretty face, a brave face in spite of

 

Opened my arms and gave hugs, received hugs in spite of

Laughed at something funny in spite of

Booked trips and wanderlusted in spite of

Planned for the future in spite of

 

Carried on with life in spite of

Doing everything in my power in spite of

 

Walking on the edge, trying not to look down

Walking, walking in spite of the fear of falling

Living in spite of the fear of the pain, what it could mean

Thriving in spite of cancer

Living in spite of the unknown

Loving in spite of pain

Pushing in spite of the futility

 

Because it is worth it, in spite of it all.
